Week 7 - The Golden Ratio

The golden ratio is a mathematical equation. All living things are structured by the golden ratio. From humans, to buildings, from paintings to natural disasters. Why is it important in visual design? It is important because even modern websites, and magazines are in the golden ratio structure. Every designer has to have in mind what a golden ratio is.
Here are some examples:

This is the simpliest formula of golden ratio.
                                             \frac{a+b}{a} = \frac{a}{b} \equiv \varphi\,.

This is how the golden ratio is divided. You can find it everywhere. Look at some examples!

A seashell is made exactly as the golden ratio formula.  Also the galaxy and the plants are made by golden ratio.

The galaxy with golden ratio.

The Mona Lisa Painting.

The Parthenon is on the golden ratio formula.
Even my twitter page.

Even Parthenon is made by the golden ratio, which is 2500 years old. And from that age, now, in 2011 we use the golden ratio on web site designs. This is a screen shot from my twitter account. I draw with the orange line the golden ratio of the web page. It's unbelievable in how many things this formula exists.

  1. Hay every one, in case of mona lisa picture, what happen if the center of golden ratio starts from her fingertip, can anybody calculate the same ratio at that piont as it is also part of this picture. Why her nose tip is center of golden ratio, why not her forehead or eyes and even the clavicle region or neck or heart, which is metaphysically and madically center of any thing ideological imagination.
It will be quite pleasure and comforting if some one calculate the same 1.618 ratio.
